Melaleuca by Angie Faye Martin
This is a fantastic, Indigenous crime noir debut novel.
It is set in a country town where a brutal murder has taken place. Renee Taylor is an Aboriginal police officer who has just returned to her home town to help her elderly mother.
This is a police procedural novel between dual timelines - 1960s involving a cold case and 2000s involving the recent murder. There are three points of view - Renee, Bessie and Caroline. It tackles difficult themes of racism and corruption together with preconceived attitudes which haven't changed over time. This book is full of suspense, secrets, coverups and twists.
I am hoping that this isn't the last time we see Renee in print.
Happy Reading
