The Whisky Widow by Karen Brooks

This is a fantastic historical fiction set in the Scottish Highlands, in 1780, after the Battle of Culloden.  Greer MacAlister is a strong female protagonist who was married to a horrible English Exise Officer.  Greer and her daughter Fen who is deaf leave Edinburgh and move to the highlands where they navigate the dangerous world of whisky distilling.  No matter how hard they try to fit in they are viewed as outsiders.

My favourite character is Fen.  Through her differences, she and Greer help the Highlanders provide them a solution to work around English Exise Officers.  Both of these characters are strong and use what others view as a weakness as their strength.

Happy Reading
