Every Wild Soul connects you to yourself and your place. Set on the remote and isolated Maria Island, it is a coming-of-age story of Min. Min lives with her overprotective father. She only knows Maria Island and is naïve, but very curious and definitely trying to expand her boundaries. Min observes the visitors to the island and wants to be like them. But when the opportunity arises, Min undergoes a large learning curve without the guidance of a mother to help her navigate the choppy waters. Her friend on the Island is a homeless, eccentric biologist who doesn't realize the impact he has on people who he meets. This is a story about resilence, courage and healing.
This novel, is definitely on I would compare this to Charlotte Wood's Wild Dark Shore. It is a wonderfully enduring story about connecting ourselves to nature. Katherine Johnson is the winner of the inaugural Australian Fiction Prize.
