This book is a lyrical, coming of age novel for fans of Delia Owens. While I did enjoy Where the Crawdads Sing, I enjoyed this book more.
Victoria's mother dies while she is young and she misses out her mother's guiding hand through her teenage years in a very misogynistic family. When her mother dies, Victoria is expected to just slip into her role without a second glance. Throughout this novel, you see Victoria navigate her way through these years and develop into a resilient, self-sufficient young woman. This is a story of love and loss and finding your home and love again where it's least expected.
